Pokemon fans will have another great reason to rejoice! The Pokemon Company recently announced that they will release a new Pokemon game that will be made available for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. The title of the game is Pokemon Unite and it will be developed by TiMi Studios and will be published by Tencent Games. Unlike the traditional Pokemon game, however, Pokemon Unite comes with entirely different gameplay. Pokemon Unite is a free-to-start strategic MOBA game.
A New MOBA Experience
The Pokemon Company has been in charge of the Pokemon media franchise including its iconic video games since 1996. Although most of their games are undeniably formulaic, there have been many attempts to create a Pokemon game that delivers a different gaming experience. Some of these include the highly-acclaimed Pokemon GO, Detective Pikachu, and even The Pokemon Company’s self-produced Magikarp. Interestingly, Pokemon Unite will deliver a unique Pokemon gaming experience that fans will surely appreciate.
The game will be developed by TiMi Studios, the same team behind games like Call of Duty: Mobile, Arena of Valor, and PUBG: Army Attack. MOBA is one of the popular gaming genres today that usually follows a standard battle format. In this game, each player controls a single character as part of a team competing against another team of players within an arena. Some of the successful MOBA games today include the League of Legends, DOTA, Heroes of Newerth, Mobile Legends, Paladins, and more. Although we do not have all the details yet, it seems like Pokemon Unite has huge shoes to fill to achieve the same amount of success reached by these aforementioned games.
The Pokemon Unite Gameplay
The details about the upcoming Pokemon Unite MOBA game are not yet revealed and the only reference we have is the announcement video by the Pokemon Company Youtube Channel. The game was described as a 5v5 real-time team battle similar to most MOBA games today. This is a cooperative battle campaign where five players will team up together to defeat the opposing team. Each player has to pick his preferred Pokemon. Once done, players will be deployed in the battle realm. Instead of towers, each team has five scoring areas that you must capture.

Aside from the opposing team’s Pokemons, you will also encounter various hostile or wild Pokemons along the way. Defeat these Pokemons to earn more experience. The unique feature of the game is the Pokemon’s ability to evolve. If you have earned enough experience, the Pokemon will evolve. As the Pokemon evolves, you will also learn a new set of skills. If you have reached the maximum level, you can unleash the so-called Unite skill which is unique in every Pokemon. The team with the most points within the given time frame wins the match.
The Playable Pokemons
The list of the playable Pokemons in Pokemon Unite is not yet confirmed but based on the trailer video, some of the available Pokemons include Charmander (and its evolution), Pikachu, Snorlax, Lucario, Clafable, Venusaur, Blastoise, Machamp, Gengar, and Tatonflame. As you see, most of them are from the first generation but with the inclusion of other new-gen Pokemons. The choices might be expanded and most of which might become available in the in-game shop.
The responses for Pokemon Unite, however, is not really overwhelming. The YouTube video instantly became the most disliked video of The Pokemon Company. Some fans are not happy with the Tencent collaboration while others are expectaing something bigger. Nevertheless, the release date for Pokemon Unite is not yet announced. Whether it is really worth playing or not, that is something we have to find out.
