Burrito Bison has come a long way after it was first launched in 2011 as a browser game. The first game was critically-acclaimed and was a massive success that it expanded to another sequel. Now, our famous luchador is taking over the mobile platform for another smashing adventure. Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre is the third installment of the franchise and the first one optimized for mobile devices. Similar to its predecessors, the main objective is to launch the so-called launchadores and conquer the Candyland by smashing gummy bears and breaking the walls. The Gameplay

The mechanics for the game are generally simple and easily manageable. Interestingly, the game works the same way with its predecessors and the only difference is that you no longer need a trajectory to adjust your launch. Similar to the original Burrito Bison game, you start the game in a boxing arena where you will initially face your opponent before being launched to the field. The field is filled with an overwhelming and seemingly endless number of running gummy bears. Your main objective is to keep the character bouncing and maintain the high velocity by smashing and jumping over the gummy bears.

One of the most notable changes in Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre is the game control. Since the game is now optimized for a mobile device, the game is no longer using a spinner to launch the character. Instead, the game is now using an aiming-based launch. Simply tap the screen, hold and adjust the angle and release to launch. You can also take advantage of powerups and boosters to maximize your winnings. The main objective is not just to get the highest score but also to break as many walls as possible. Breaking walls also allows you to explore new areas of Candyland and also to unlock new Launchadores.

Upgrades

The upgrade plays a crucial role in this game. To reach farther distance, it is very important to upgrade your Launchador. In Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre, the upgrades are categorized into four different categories. The first category is dedicated to the Launchador. These upgrades allow you to make your launch more efficient. Elastic Cables, for example, will give you greater launch power while Rocket Slam will increase the amount of time your character can body slam. The second category, on the other hand, is dedicated to the special gummy bears. Aside from the ordinary gummy bears, you will also encounter Special gummies that can help you maximize your winnings.

Special Gummies include Puncheus Pilot, Wannabearm Gumdalf, Prickly Pair, Dr. Wormageddon, Hunny Potter, Robbear, Jelly Roger, and more. Each of them has different abilities and effects that you can take advantage of and upgrading them will increase their frequency. The third category is dedicated to the Ring opponents. Opponents like Jawbreaker, Harry Bow-tie, Bernerds, and Villaina Ice have different skills and effects once you hit them with the critical launch. The last category of upgrades is the consumables. You can purchase consumables and take advantage of their one-time effect to make your launchador more effective and efficient on every launch.

Unlock More Launchador

What really makes Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre more special above its predecessor is the introduction of new characters. This game will bring us three more launchadores aside from Burrito Bison. Interestingly, you cannot unlock these launchadores through the shop. Instead, you must break through the cake walls to earn access to their characters. Pineapple Spank, for instance, can be unlocked after successfully passing through the first cake wall while El Pollo can be accessed after passing through the 4th Cake wall. The most recent character known as La Bestia can be unlocked after you completed all the Recipes in Burrito Bison’s cookbook. La Bestia is based on Juicy Beast’s logo.

The best part of these launchadores is that each of them has a special ability. Pineapple Spank is armed with a grappling hook when she uses a rocket boost. The hook will automatically attach to the nearest special gummy which makes her ability very ideal in some selected quests. El Pollo, on the other hand, has the ability to glide to delay his slams and allowing the player to choose where to land. All the upgrades you applied for Burrito Bison will also be applied to all other launchadores. It is also interesting to note that once you have unlocked a character, you cannot manually pick which one to deploy. Instead, the system will let you use the characters alternately.

The Verdict

Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre captures everything we enjoyed from its equally-successful predecessors. It is nice to see that Juicy Beast (in cooperation with Kongregate), managed to bring the iconic browser game to the mobile platform. The game remains faithful to its root while featuring a vast of impressive changes that make the game even more enjoyable. Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre also works perfectly even without an Internet connection. To top it all, the game is relatively light enough that it won’t consume much of your phone storage. Appearance-wise, nothing much was change compared to its browser versions but one thing is sure, Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre is truly a visual delight. Adorned with colorful details of CandyLand and matched with well-fitting Mexican-inspired music to bring the Lucha Libre atmosphere alive.
