From the publisher behind the successful Hoop Smash comes another simple yet addictive game. Kwalee’s Shootout 3D takes you to an epic shooting adventure that will put your skills on a test. Shootout 3D is not your hardcore shooter game but more of a challenging physics-based puzzle. The main objective is to eliminate all the enemies while refraining your characters from being killed. It is not about the weapon but more about properly aligning the trajectories to accurately eliminate your target. The Gameplay

The mechanics for Shootout 3D are very simple and easily manageable but it is surprisingly tricky. Here’s how the game works. As soon as the game starts, you will be prompted into a simple screen that is filled with small characters and other objects. Your character(s) are often represented by green avatars while enemies are mostly orange and blue (especially bosses). To start, simply swipe the character around (left or right) to adjust the trajectory. The trajectory is projected in front of your avatar and it moves according to where your character is facing.

Once the trajectory is set, tap the screen to start shooting. Here’s an interesting part. Enemies who are equipped with a weapon will also move on the same motion as you swipe the screen. There’s also trajectories moving along them. Players can take advantage of these trajectories to accurately shoot their targets without letting their characters get killed. Eventually, you will also encounter objects like walls, barrels, and logs which can either help and harm you in the process.

Not Your Typical Shooting Game

Shootout 3D is definitely not your typical shooting game. It is a merge between the physics-based puzzle and target shooting. Eventually, you will encounter various objects which can help you achieve your goal. These objects are often interactive. Barrels are explosive. Simply shoot them and they will explode and kill anyone around it. Just be mindful though that your character is also vulnerable to an explosion so make sure to prevent shooting any nearby barrels, otherwise, you might get your character killed.

Walls in this game are indestructible and you can use them to reflect your bullet. The trajectories will also bend with walls which allows you to shoot the target more accurately. Logs, on the other hand, are often presented in a huge pile. Simply shoot the pile of logs and let them roll towards nearby enemies. Take note that the rate of difficulty will drastically increase as you progress which makes the game more tricky and challenging.

Boss Battles

One of the greatest highlights of Shootout 3D is the boss battle. Each level takes you to multiple stages. It might take three, four or five stages before reaching the boss stage. Unlike the normal stages, boss battles will take place in a more colorful arena. It features a boss (with the size that is slightly bigger than the normal enemies). The stage will be cleared as soon as the boss is killed. Therefore, it is not necessarily needed to eliminate all enemies just to clear the level.

The game could have been more engaging if they added more interesting features such as a scoring system or better yet an option to upgrade or unlock new skins. On a positive note, the game works well even without an Internet connection and it doesn’t consume much of your phone storage.

The Verdict

Shootout 3D is generally simple, fun and surprisingly addictive. It is a very light shooting and puzzle game with a decent amount of difficulty to keep the players hooked. Appearance-wise, Shootout 3D offers a good and simple interface but the boss stages are visually stunning and absolutely colorful.
